Wow, I'm Impressed

Just configured N1MM logger for M/M over a ethernet cat-5 network.

1) It was a snap. One user error where I missed the fact that EDIT STATION COMPUTER NAMES needs a ":" between the Stn # and name. Otherwise it went without a hitch. The writeup in the latest PDF was very helpful. We do a small M/M of four positons and not a lot more O.F.operators. Always wanted the ability to run our multiplier position SO2R into the multi network. Preliminary testing I have done indicates this works- so the guy in multiplier posn can troll 2 bands at once.

An awesome product, my congratulations/thanks to the design team. Btw, one of the monitors I tested with was a 12". The U.I. is so flexible that it was not a problem.

I AM ONE HAPPY HAM

Used N1MMLogger in ARRL SSB DX CONTEST and it worked like a champ! Emailed the log to ARRL robot - was accepted first shot. Converted it to ADIF and transferred it to my logging program (DXBASE) and printed out QSL labels. Backed everything up and it all took less than half hour!

Great job Tom and everyone else who participated in making the program so GREAT!

I've used them all and N1MM logger is the BEST.

After reading all the reviews on N1MMlogger I can't think of a thing to add describing the features that have been covered so well in the reviews. I have used most of the contest logging programs that are out there, some I've bought and others were FREE, none came close to the ease and support of N1MMlogger. Updates come almost weekly, always after a contest. The forum is great where there is always someone around to answer your questions. The manual is several hundred pages and is updated regularly. I hadn't sent in a contest log since 1966 when I won the Novice roundup but decided to submit my Cabrillo log after the ARRL CW contest 2003 for checking purposes. I was pleasantly surprised to have the robot come back via Email stating that the log was excepted without making corrections. It couldn't get any easier as I barely get by with computers. If they started charging for this software I would be right in line - I highly recommend this program to new operators and seasoned ops alike. Check it out you will be pleasantly surprised like I was.

Phenomenal!

This is one incredible contesting program! I downloaded the program and installed it the day before the contest, ran through a few "practice" QSO's to get used to it, recorded some WAV files for CQ and contest exchanges using "Audacity", a free audio program, then tried the logging program for a while at the beginning of the contest. Had a lot of fun!! Wasn't really going to "get into" the contest, but it was SO much fun I leapt. Although not seriously aiming to go for any kind of effort, I ended up with 1203 QSO's, 533,244 points, and the log was converted to Cabrillo format, sent to ARRL within 20 minutes of the end of the contest, and their robot told me it was accepted. WOW! Converted the N1MM log to ADIF and uploaded it to DX4WIN 6.02 with no problems, printed out a few QSLs, and it was over. GREAT program, and super effort on the part of all involved with its development!! Congratulations!!

Just thought I would let you know that the following stations used N1MM Logger in the CQWWCW:

6Y2A (KE7X op, 20m) 6Y4A (K2KW op, 40m) 6Y9A (N6XG op, 15m)

We were all QRP single band entries. We all loved the program! Both 6Y2A and 6Y4A have claimed scores that easily broke the existing QRP single band records, and N1MM Logger went a long way in helping those results. Keep up the great work!

I first looked at N1MMLogger last year but with only a 486 PC to work with I stayed with my trusty DOS based program, which served me very well for three years. Over time the features of N1MM were just too much to live without for my contesting activities so I made the break and purchased an old P166 laptop running Win95 to see how things would go.

What a transformation! I run a 'little pistol' station with 100 watts and dipole or verticals for antennas. Search and Pounce is the most productive mode for me and the bandmap feature gives me a huge advantage. I can tune round the bands and spot stations on the bandmap and at any time, just by clicking the mouse, I am back on their frequency to see if it is worth my while calling. Forget the Quick Memory Bank or loading into the other VFO on the rig, it's all done for you in a very simple way.

I have used N1MM Logger in SSB,CW and RTTY contests over the past six months and am sticking with it. The fact it is FREE, has nothing to do with why this Scotsman loves it! Download it yourself and play with it over a period of time and I am positive you will agree, it's the way forward, if you don't agree then please e-mail me and tell me why.

73 and see you in the contest

As I thought about it, the reason I like the program is because it's a free, yet commercial level contesting program. And the reason I started trying contesting was entirely because of it. Your software could really bring many more newcomers in, worked for me!

Just for the fun of it, I browsed the hard drive on my main computer in the shack to see how many different contest logging programs I had installed over the years. I counted 16 !!. DOS programs, WINDOWS programs, freebies, shareware and most of the popular registered programs. I've tried them all in an attempt to find at least one that would do what I wanted a contest logger to do.

A few months ago, I stumbled upon the N1MM Logger on the internet. After browsing the Website, I downloaded the program, installed it and began doing my routine tests to see what the program would do.

1) Will it properly control my 1000MP ? Within 2 minutes it was running flawlessly. 2) Will it send proper CW ? Another 1 minute and the rig was sending perfectly spaced CW. 3) Does it support my favorite contests? With the exception of a couple, they were all on the list and some more have been added since I started using it. 4) Will it suck spots from the Internet and bandmap them ? Another 2 minutes and that was up and running. 5) Easy to use on the fly ? After a few test entries, I was SOLD!!

Now the big test, ARRL 10 Meter Contest weekend. Ran the entire weekend, 2,500+ QSO's, no crashes and no hiccups. Worked like a charm. Not bad for a program that I had only played with for a day.

This program is easy to install, easy to learn, flexible and IT WORKS!!(Not to mention, it's FREE) No DOS windows, no TSR's to worry about. Double click the icon and it's ready to go.

Tom and others have done a great job with this one and continue to make improvements to it. I've used it in a dozen or so contests now (major and minor) as SOAB, with only a couple minor problems. On the "10" scale, it's a 9.5, quickly working it's way to a 10. It's my contest logger of choice and I highly recommend it to anyone.

I've been playing with this program for about 8 months now. After the first trials I was about to give up, because some of the most basic features did not work properly (this turned out to be my fault, I should have read the manual). But somehow I was "tickled" by it and kept on going. Now it is my favorite logging-soft.

Some things I like about this logger:

  • the "let's make our own logger that fits our needs" philosophy
  • intuitive and contest minded design
  • bandmaps!!!! in combination with cluster access (even via the internet!) and computer control over the transceiver, "the program really comes alive", like Tom himself puts it, and he does not exaggerate at all
  • great support and quick bug fixing (even right in the middle of a contest!) and a listening ear from Tom N1MM and his fellow programmers

Stable: never had one single crash or loss of QSO (on Win98SE) Only one (!) thing I like less is that it is hard to bypass some rules when participating in a not supported contest (which is a stupid thing to do in the first place, hi), and the lack of ways to define contest rules yourself. I did some casual DX logging (+3k CW QSO's with special event prefixes) with N1MMLogger, as well as the ARRL 10m, ARRL DX CW, CQ WPX CW, All Asian CW and even some unsupported contests (RDXC, UBA DX CW) and it performed flawlessly, it did what I expected it to do and had no troubles whatsoever!

One thing is sure: you cannot get the program to work in 15 minutes. If you download it for the first time and do a quick install one hour before a contest: forget it! Go back to bed! You have to play with it and experiment with the settings, and have the manual open at all times. Once you experiment with all parameters, it just feels so intuitive and when going 'into action', you just feel it is written by a small team of contesters, as everything is well thought over and is functionally from a contester's point of view.

At first, I thought the biggest advantage was that it is free. Now I would be willing to pay a fair price for it, should Tom N1MM change his freeware policy. This is because the program has a lot of qualities that are more important than being for free. I could mention the quality of the software, the fact that it is stable (never had 1 single crash in a contest)the whistles and bells. And of course the support. But you should try N1MMLogger and convince yourself!

All-in-all a great program, and don't forget: Tom and his team really do take into account your remarks and wishes (to a certain extent of course). Try that with another program! So if you're into contesting, you should at least try this program a few days before you make your final judgment. Bottom line: this software works great, keeps on evolving every day and is completely free! So what are you waiting for?

Simply the best Windows based contest logger out there.

Gives one the ability to access all the com ports etc. on your win95 machine. Telnet, networking, the coolest bandmaps, almost every function user configurable. ENTER SENDS MESSAGE mode is the greatest! When you are running just type the callsign in the enter field and hit enter, the exchange is sent; log the exchange hit enter again and TU is sent, then enter again CQ is sent.

A great user group and the best thing..IT'S FREE!!!

Now if only if a DVK via the lpt was supported ( it does support via the soundcard) and if someone would write a dxcc/award module this would be the only logging program you would need.

Hi Tom et al,

Reading about your program in a German ham magazine, browsing thru the manual, installing the software and now actually using it during the CQ WPX CW contest over the last weekend my feeling about this piece of software went from "nice" to "impressive" to "WOW !" to the point I miss the words to express my feelings in English ;-) The absolute highlight was the following: I'm keeping all my contacts on Swisslog especially for tracking my DXCC and WAZ standings. So I prepared to take a second PC to the shack to run N1MM Logger on one and Swisslog on the other (both with a cluster-connection, one just in passive, listening mode). I don't know what tempted me to run both software on one machine when I set up everything on Wednesday before the contest. Well, to keep it short: It would not only run without any hint of a problem but N1MM Logger would even keep sending perfect CW while I checked for new bandpoints (on the WARC-bands and the SSB- parts of the bands) in Swisslog. Absolutely unbelievable !!! Great job. I believe I've found my software of choice for contesting and my ham friends who came by during the contest were deeply impressed. Just for those of you who are familiar with the PC-game Moorhuhn we decided to call this program Moorhuhn for Hams ;-)

What do I like about it? I set up packet and the radio control, and all the features worked! I had to put my first Windows computer in my house just to run N1MM Logger! And unlike the other half-working logging software I have, asking nicely (and sometimes not so nicely) will actually get bug fixes!

This free software is very well supported.

Marco, IK2XSL

N1MM Logger is well supported: discussion group, improvements uploaded very quickly, bug fixes when necessary. Allowing me to make RTTY, reserving the KAM for cluster connections, avoiding me to do the same by buying another KAM or similar. Allowing me to do ssb, playing wav files. I record by simply speaking in my usual mic, for both contest calls or long CQ calls when looking for dx, avoiding me to buy a voice keyer. The same if you work CW. Easy to use and with many useful features for both contest or dx activity, especially with radio interfaced to PC.

That's all for free; what can you ask more?

Bye, Marco - IK2XSL
